Our July Recipient – Restoration ATL

Shelter, comfort, protection, familiar- these are all words that we might use to describe a home. Home for us might be one thing we take for granted. It’s something we come back to everyday and don’t think much about. We just know it and love it as our home.

Some people are not this blessed and fortunate. Many people all over the world are homeless. Studies have shown that around 150 million people around the world are homeless. 1.6 billion people, about 20% of the world’s population, lacks adequate housing. This is not right. People should have a place to call home, a bed they can rest their head on, a shelter for protection.

We are thankful so many places around the globe are working to help solve this problem. One of these organizations, called Restoration ATL, is located in Atlanta, Georgia, and works to serve the homeless people of the city.

Restoration ATL (also known as “RATL”) works with women and children to provide a 6-month empowerment program that eradicates homelessness and leads to stability and sustainability in the areas of housing, healthcare, education, and employment with a primary focus on women and children experiencing homelessness. For many of the women and children, this looks like the women finding jobs and going to work each day while their children are in school. After school care is then provided for the children for 6 hours while their mothers focus on their jobs.

DollarFund is proud to partner with RATL as they are devoted to restoring and transforming the lives of families transitioning out of homelessness through a structured, relational, and “be with” approach. Because of the combined $1 donations from you and others around the world, we are able to give $1,979 that will really help RATL as they help house the homeless and transition them out of homelessness with their program.

Your donations will support the growth and development of the Restoration ATL After School Assistance Program which will enroll 25 additional (45 total) homeless children with a loving, safe, and structured environment during after school hours while their mothers participate in a 6-month empowerment program that leads to homeless families stability and sustainability in the areas of housing and employment.

RATL’s programs provided 40,000 hours of combined programming and 7,900 meals to over 120 children from 80 families transitioning out of homelessness in 2017. Additionally, the program had 100% of students advance to the next grade level with 80% academically improving over the previous semester, as well as 100% of mothers noting that they were allowed to work and/or complete job training because of the program.
