We believe helping cure childhood cancer is so important. Today and everyday we want to be in the fight to raise awareness and help find a cure to end childhood cancer. The month of September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month and we are glad to bring awareness and work towards a world where we see an end to childhood cancer. We are excited to announce that your donations from the month of September are going to help heal the sick as we give to help fund research for childhood cancer! 

Did you know?

• Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States.
• Every year, more than 17,000 children in the United States and more than 300,000 worldwide are diagnosed with cancer.
• Incidence rates are increasing every year.
• In the last 25 years, only six drugs have been developed and approved specifically for children.
• Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children.

The Problem with Childhood Cancer 

Diagnosis 

• About 1 in 285 children will develop cancer before the age of 20. 

Treatment 

• Today we only have 6 drugs that were approved in the first instance for use in cancer treatment for children 
• Cancer in children is different from cancer that develops later in life. Some of the side effects of cancer treatments cause more harm to children than they do to adults. This is because children’s bodies are still growing and developing, so cancer and its treatment are more likely to affect developing organs. 
• Childhood cancer is not one disease – there are more than 12 major types of pediatric cancers and over 100 subtypes 

Fatalities 

• Cancer remains the most common cause of death by disease among children in the United States. 
• 1 in 5 children diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. will not survive, and for the ones who do, the battle is never over. 

Survivorship 

• Cognitive impairment affects up to one-third of childhood cancer survivors 
• By the age of 50, more than 99% of survivors have had a chronic health problem, and 96% have experienced a severe or life-threatening condition caused by the toxicity of the treatment that initially saved their life, including brain damage, loss of hearing and sight, heart disease, secondary cancers, learning disabilities, infertility and more. By the time a child in treatment for cancer today reaches the age of 50, we want these statistics to be far less grim 

We are not okay with these statistics and we want to work to see these numbers decrease as we help heal the sick. DollarFund is excited to partner with Children’s Cancer Research Fund, an amazing organization that works to help research and find a cure for children with cancer.

At Children’s Cancer Research Fund, we believe a world without childhood cancer is possible – but it’s going to take all of us.

Funding for childhood cancer research pales in comparison to funds available for research into adult cancers. In fact, as a percentage of cancer research funding from the federal government, childhood cancer research funding is in the single digits. It is crucial that we fund safer, more effective treatments and cures for kids with cancer. The road to new, better treatment options always starts with philanthropic support.
